Britons enjoyed an era of unprecedented prosperity under Cymbeline’s reign. Having been raised in the Roman royal court, he got along well with the Caesars, which may have been part of the secret of his success. He was also the first British monarch to mint his coins of the realm.
The Shakespeare play entitled Cymbeline was based on his life. It’s probably one of Bard’s earliest plays since it’s typically unfavorably critiqued by Shakespearean scholars.
